Permaculture garden walk and talk
Korito Permaculture Garden is open as part of the Taranaki Garden Festival which showcases a number of gardens in Taranaki. This year the main festival brochure contains 3 ‘sustainable’ gardens of which Korito is one.
Korito is an urban permaculture 1 acre property which hosts a number of permaculture weekend courses per year. It has a mandala growing system with chook dome, a 6 year old food forest, bio-intensive beds, espalier fruit trees, subtropicals, stream and a 400 year old piece of original bush. It reuses lots of waste products in its structures and has detailed signage to show what is going on in each part of the garden.
In addition, the Festival is also showcasing the Taranaki ‘Sustainable Backyards Trail’ – www.sustainablebackyards.org.nz (now in its 10th year) run by the sustainable Taranaki trust. This showcases 30 sustainable gardens around the region, many of which are permaculture gardens.
More information on the gardens can be found at www.gardenfestnz.co.nz. Korito garden is number 17.
Garden entrance fee is $5 which includes the 11am talk.
