November 2024 Newsletter

Kia ora koutou permaculture whānau,
Following all of the work the PiNZ Council put into the 2024 Hui, it is now time to refocus our energy on our organisation and our members. As per our constitution, we now need to hold an AGM for our membership to not only approve our financial reports and to vote on any proposals put forward by council, but to elect council members. Council are not putting forward any proposals this year, so that just leaves approving our financial reports and electing members to join the council team. The PiNZ Council needs to be made up of not less than four (4) and not more than seven (7) persons, and newly elected Council members are expected to retain their position on Council for a minimum of two (2) years.Once voted on, a Council member does not need to be re-elected at the start of their second year, but will need to resign and be re-elected at the start of their third year.As we head into this AGM, we are looking for up to 4 new people to join those heading into their second year.As I have now completed three years on Council, I too will need to be re-nominated and stand for election. Both the person being nominated and the nominator need to be paid-up members of Permaculture in New Zealand and have the capacity to volunteer up to 12 hours a month. The role of council is to facilitate the promotion and empowerment of permaculture design, education and advocacy in Aotearoa New Zealand. So if you or someone you know has a set of skills that would make them a good addition to council, please get the nominations in as soon as possible.Once nominations close voting will open for 7 days with all paid members invited to vote on the candidates who have been nominated. If you have any questions please get in touch.
Ngā mihi,
Fiona Moorhouse

What you need to know
PiNZ is a charity and as a membership-based organisation, you play a vital role in us achieving our mission to “make permaculture accessible to all residents of Aotearoa by supporting the development of learning opportunities and education pathways, expanding the permaculture community and networking opportunities, and promoting the development and practice of permaculture in Aotearoa/New Zealand.”
While the PiNZ council are elected and volunteer their time to steer the organisation to achieve our mission, the input and actions of all members contribute to us making progress towards our aim. This means we want to hear your feedback, not just at the AGM but throughout the year.

Our membership is spread out across the country and what you hear and see provides a good insight into the progress we are making.

So while the AGM is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, feedback, ideas as well as participate in specific decision making, as we move forward please remember not to wait until the AGM and to get in contact as soon as possible. As much as permaculture is an inclusive movement, only PiNZ members are eligible to sit on council, and only members have a vote. So if you’ve got ideas and skills you’d like to share, and feel like a seat at the table would help you serve our movement and community better, sign up now!
You can still catch up!Hui speakers & presentationsMost of the speakers at the Hui agreed to have their presentation filmed, so that members who missed out can watch the videos at a later date. We’ll have more news about this soon!
