This training is a 16-day intensive residential (live in) course based at River Valley Lodge.
Whether you own a farm, a lifestyle block, a suburban section, or are simply hoping to gain the skills required for when you do have your own, then this course is for you.
This is a certificate course, so you will gain an internationally-recognised Permaculture Design Certificate qualification upon successful completion.
Our Permaculture Design Certificate course (PDC) covers the international Permaculture Design Certificate curriculum and is taught in an integrated hands-on way. Learning modalities include theoretical teaching, observation exercises, practical sessions, design exercises, powerpoints and DVDs. The course covers the following topics:
- Permaculture ethics, design principles and implementation
- Organic growing methods (vegetable gardens, herbs, fruit, edible landscapes)
- Site and climate analysis
- Land management (soils, orchards, pastures, trees, water systems)
- Integrated animal systems
- Water harvesting & storage. Grey water & ‘waste’ recycling
- Ecological building
- Renewable energy systems and appropriate technology
- Permaculture design for rural and suburban-large and small scale
Accommodation, all meals, quality teaching and relevant course materials and a take home manual are all included in the price. This is a certificate course, so you will gain an internationally-recognised Permaculture Design Certificate qualification upon successful completion.

We offer a range of adventure activities and accommodation, and we also have an on-site bar and restaurant serving food made with produce from our own regenerative gardens, River Valley Acres.
The Lodge is a great place to relax. There is a great swimming hole in the river, two saunas and a spa, and plenty of places to just relax with a book and enjoy the peace and quiet. Other amenities include a guest kitchen, volleyball court, petanque court, giant chess, free wi-fi and free parking.
The course starts after lunch on the 16th October 2021 and finishes after lunch on 31st October 2021.

Guenther is a Permaculture NZ-affiliated teacher. He is an experienced workshop facilitator, earthbuilder, permaculture and landscape designer and consultant with a particular passion for lifestyle properties. With over 25 years of experience designing and creating unique outdoor environments utilising permaculture ethics and principles, Guenther brings a wealth of practical knowledge and experience and enjoys supporting others to realise their own permaculture projects and aspirations
Robina has been engaged in community development, organic growing, permaculture design, and tutoring globally for the past 25 years. She is the founder of the Institute of Earthcare Education Aotearoa, co-founder of Tui Land Trust & Community in Golden Bay, N.Z. and pioneer of the S.E.E.D (Schools Environmental Education & Development) program in South Africa and Brazil. Robina has developed a range of environmental education resources and participatory processes for collective decision-making and action–most notably ‘Grounding Vision, Empowering Culture’, a community facilitation manual, and ‘Grow It!’, a Home Garden coaching series. Robina has taught & applied her powerful community-building methods with households, neighbourhoods, schools, farms, eco villages & bioregions in Aotearoa/New Zealand and many countries overseas.
