Golden Bay Sustainable Living Course is a Permaculture Design Certificate Course +++

Develop your own sustainable living project & be empowered to make a difference in the world through your profession and chosen way of life.
Our 10 week ‘Sustainable Living Course’ offers a compelling menu of hands-on, experiential learning modules covering seven core areas plus your personal research project. Course participants will enjoy super dynamic healthy organic lunches, lots of fun, some of the best learning needed to survive and thrive in the 21st Century and all the support you need personally in getting your best visitor experience in beautiful magical Golden Bay.

Personal Well-Being - John Massey
Permaculture Design - Robina McCurdy
Organic Food Growing - Sol Morgan
Food Harvesting, Preparation & Preservation - Kerryn Easterbrook
Alternative Building - Graeme Scott
Resilient Community - Thalea Tane & Robina McCurdy
Project Management &Sustainable Business - Thalea Tane & Angelique Mayer
Personal Project - Mentored by all tutors and some community members.

Course Methods
Learn in paradise with some of the world's leading local experts through interactive tutorials, hands on practical work, challenges and field trips. You will visit some of the wealth of living examples of sustainable practices within Golden Bay like a 30 year old intentional community and a famous local music & restaurant venue that embodies sustainable practices. You will hear the stories of conscious, local businesses and experience first hand how they work, be a part of our Harvest Festival & Living Wood Fair (in Autumn only) and much more.

Take part in two challenges:

Food Challenge Week: Framing your learning around Food Preparation, Harvesting & Preserving and Sustainable Business is the Pop Up Cafe Food Challenge. You'll plan the menu, cost the budget, do the marketing, harvest the food, and prepare a meal for the community all in one week! It's super fun and super challenging especially if you uplevel to a full on Pop Up Fest like Spring 2019 students did. :)

The Building Challenge: Alternative Building includes a building challenge to complete in a day and a half. The first course students in Autumn 2019 built a composting toilet. Spring 2019 is still to be decided as of the writing of this post. The building is supported by your building tutor, Graeme Scott.

Lastly, we go on an overnight retreat at the end of the course to Mangerakau on the West Coast an hour or so from Takaka, Golden Bay to experience
