This primarily online course will explore three main themes: digital collaboration, environmental design and Permaculture research. It responds to the changing nature of learning, meeting and collaboration in a Covid-19 world, acknowledging that the world will likely look very different at the end of this course from the time we launch in mid-October.
This course is not a Permaculture Design Certification course (PDC), nor do students need to have completed their PDC before joining us. However, the ethics and principles of Permaculture will manifest in the work we do. As such, I envision this course to work as a parallel course to a PDC for those self-motivated students interested in asking and answering big questions about how we can work, play, eat, learn, grow, and live together.
Core learning themes include:
How to collaborate online with words, pictures, ideas.
How to design at different scales (interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, regional planning)
How to ask and answer good research questions using Permaculture, science and statistical methods.
Clearly any one of these topics could take a lifetime to master. To this end, students will be supported to explore each sub-topic within the time, technology, communication constraints we have in the course and in our own lives.
